Has anyone ever rented a house/mansion for vacation purposes?

My family of 17( 6 individual families) is going on a cruise next may. We were thinking that instead of paying 200 to 300 for hotel rooms for 6 individual family we could rent a mansion and divide the cost. I found some reasonably priced mansions from 800 to 1400 which isn't bad divided 6 ways. It seems to good to be true. Has anyone else did something similar to this?
