IPhone 4 help please?

I have the iPhone 4. I was listening to music with my headphones in, then i took them in and now the sound doesnt work. nothing! the ringer, music or volum doesnt work. Only when the headphones are in! And when I turn the volum up or down, it says "ringer (headphones)" or "volum (headphones)" so it's basically saying my headphones are still in, but they arent! Help me please! I also tried to hold the top button, then slide to turn it off, then hold it down again to turn it back on, but it didnt work. yes, i know.. apple sucks -.-
